Fumie Shibata

Following her graduation from Musashino Art University, Fumie Shibata embarked on a remarkable journey that has firmly established her as a pioneering figure in the world of design. Beginning her career at a prominent electrical goods manufacturer, Shibata honed her skills and expertise in industrial design before venturing into entrepreneurship by founding Design Studio S.

Rooted in a rich tradition of industrial design, Design Studio S boasts a diverse portfolio that spans across various fields. From everyday electronics to specialized healthcare technology and innovative capsule hotels, Shibata and her team demonstrate a remarkable ability to adapt their knowledge and capabilities to meet the unique needs of each project.

In addition to her role as a design practitioner, Shibata also serves as a professor at Musashino Art University, where she imparts her wealth of knowledge and experience to the next generation of designers. As the Judging Committee Chair of the 2018-2019 Good Design Awards and the author of the acclaimed book ‘Forms within Forms’, Shibata’s influence extends far beyond the confines of the studio.
