Jae Yong Kim

Jae Yong Kim, a passionate artist, has a unique love for donuts. Instead of indulging in them, he uses them as a canvas to express his creativity. In 2012, Kim showcased his first solo exhibition titled “Lust for Donuts,” a concept he had been developing since 2010. Initially limited by his color-blindness, Kim used these donuts as a means to conduct color tests and surprisingly found comfort in the results. The overwhelming response to his work helped him overcome his fear of using colors and transformed his donuts into vibrant masterpieces. With his message of “Do Not Fear,” Kim aims to spread joy and smiles through his visual language, especially during challenging times. As he faces more obstacles, his work becomes even more radiant and captivating, providing him with strength and joy during the creative process. In addition to his donut creations, Kim also shares his expertise as a ceramics teacher at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology. Exploring the transformation of small ceramic designs into large 2D carpets has been an intriguing and enjoyable creative journey for him, as the interpretation of the designs evolves and yields exciting outcomes.
